Meet the Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph Green, Your Perfect Glamping Companion.

The long-awaited PRX chronograph with a waffle-patterned dial debuts in a stylish rich green hue.

The PRX collection continues to capture attention, with Tissot consistently introducing cool new designs that resonate with consumers. This series has become popular for its competitive pricing, appealing aesthetics, and solid performance features. Drawing inspiration from Tissot’s 1978 Seastar – a sports watch with an integrated bracelet – the PRX series (Precise, Robust, with the X representing 10 bars of water-resistance) was born. Although the name and concept were initially short-lived, they were rediscovered in 2020 and reintroduced at just the right moment in 2021.

The collection made a strong comeback, first with quartz-powered PRX models and then with the Powermatic 80 versions, which quickly became hits in a market hungry for such designs. An Automatic Chronograph took a year to join the PRX line-up, blending classic design elements, vintage inspiration and modern touches. With the introduction of Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph Green, four PRX chrono references exist. The recently added green, while retaining the specs of the earlier releases, appears as a different watch altogether, as we realized after a hands-on experience, reporting below.

Like its counterparts in the collection, the new Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph Green – the Panda (black and navy blue) and the Reverse Panda (blue) – is a substantial watch, both in size and weight. The stainless steel barrel-shaped case with a fluted crown and flat, rectangular chrono pushers. It measures 42mm in width and 14.5mm in thickness, giving it a robust presence on the wrist. The thickness, in particular, contributes to its hefty feel, further emphasized by the brushed sides of the mid-case and the tall, polished bezel. While the sapphire crystal is flat, the caseback does protrude slightly, though not enough to cause discomfort. If you’re drawn to a steel watch with a bracelet, the thickness and weight of the PRX Automatic Chronograph are likely to add to its appeal, making it a timepiece you can thoroughly enjoy.

A significant part of the enjoyment comes from the integrated steel bracelet, crafted from numerous slim, single-piece links. These links feature a brushed finish, with polished accents on the smaller surfaces between them. This mix of finishes, applied to both the case and bracelet, adds a touch of elegance that gives the chronograph a refined look – one that suggests a much higher price point, but we’ll discuss that later. The barrel-shaped case flows seamlessly into the bracelet, and the overall design is outstanding. The bracelet’s articulation ensures excellent wearing comfort, and the butterfly folding clasp is a well-thought-out feature that enhances the watch’s value. While it would benefit from a micro-adjustment option, the included half links allow you to achieve a perfect fit for your wrist.

The standout feature of the Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph Green is undoubtedly its dial. The rich green hue, accentuated by a stamped waffle or tapisserie pattern, is deep and sophisticated, with a gradient that sometimes shifts to almost black at the edges. This textured surface, combined with the green sub-dials – 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, small seconds – and the crisp baton-style indices, hands, minute markers, and framed date aperture at 4:30, all with a touch or more of white, contributes to the watch’s sporty, outdoor-ready aesthetic while maintaining excellent legibility. Unlike previous PRX Automatic Chronograph models, which leaned more toward a dressy vibe, this edition introduces a rugged yet stylish edge. It’s the kind of watch that looks just as good when you’re getting your hands dirty outdoors as when simply enjoying a well-deserved break, blending functionality with a fashionable appeal.

Regarding functionality, let’s be honest – the primary appeal of this watch is its looks. You might not consider it a serious replacement for your smartphone’s timekeeping or stopwatch functions. However, it has a chronograph calibre, so you can expect it to perform when needed.

The watch is powered by the A05.H31 calibre based on the classic ETA 7753 automatic cam-actuated chronograph movement (a 3-6-9 variant of the 7750). This movement includes notable upgrades, including a 60-hour power reserve, ensuring solid performance. Through the display caseback, you can catch a glimpse of the movement. While it may not be the most visually striking – its finish is more industrial than decorative – it offers practical features like hacking seconds and a quick-set date, accessible via a pusher on the left side of the case. Considering the price point, there’s not much to complain about.

Ah, the price is always a popular topic. The new Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph Green is priced at EUR 2,045, which aligns with the current pricing for the series, though it’s a bit higher than the EUR 1,795 tag when the first PRX Automatic Chronograph debuted. That said, the quality you’re getting at this price is hard to match within the same budget range.

If you’re in the market for a steel chronograph with an integrated bracelet and the size suits you (as seen on a 19cm wrist in our images), and you fancy green, this might be the watch for you. However, I imagine many will hold out for the day Tissot releases a blue version of the waffle chronograph.

  1. Umpfh… When you compare the finish of the polished angles on the bracelet on these detail pics vs those of the CW 12th, which I consider a direct competitor… It looks very poor.

  2. Must be the worst date window I’ve ever seen. Looks like it was dropped on the dial by accident..
