Introducing the Autumn 2014 collection by JeanRichard

For those who are not already aware, JeanRichard is the ‘affordable proposition’ of the Kering Group, meaning the luxury group that owns the impressive Girard-Perregaux, the jeweler Boucheron and, since a few weeks, Ulysse Nardin. With a collection focussed on sports watches with a strong and distinctive design, the brand is growing in the heart of collectors and known for its interesting value for money ratio. For this end of summer, JeanRichard is introducing a new collection, inspired by the warm and natural colours of autumn.

The JeanRichard 1681 Chestnut Brown PVD

The 1681 is JeanRichard’s finest proposition. It comes with an interesting in-house calibre developed inside the manufacture Sowind, in the same plant where the movements of Girard-Perregaux are produced. It is however an exclusive engine that is used only by JeanRichard. The Calibre JR1000 is a modern self-winding movement that ticks at 4hz (28.800vph) and that boasts 48 hours of power reserve. It may be a simple 3 hands and date movement but it adds an extra exclusivity to this watch, as only few of its competitors can take pride in having a in-house movement. For that reason, it is the only JeanRichard watch with a see-through caseback. Considering the price, don’t expect the same level of finish as in a Girard-Perregaux. However, the view is quite pleasant and clean, with straight Geneva stripes and polished bevelled angles on the bridges.

The case uses the typical cushion-shape that can be found in the rest to the JeanRichard collection, as for example the Aquascope or the Terrascope we reviewed recently. However, in this edition, the 44mm case is slimmer and adorned more rounded shapes. This autumn edition comes with a Chestnut Brown PVD coating, a sanded and textured finish of the case and a black matte dial with applied numbers and indexes. The hands are also coated in black and filed with beige super-luminova.

The JeanRichard 1681, in this warm and original colour, is available for 6.200Eur (including EU taxes). A beige dial edition of this JeanRichard 1681 is also available.

The new 3-hand edition of the JeanRichard Aeroscope

The Aeropscope is not new in the JeanRichard Collection, but it usually comes in with a chronograph complication. From now, this pilot-inspired watch is also available with a 3-hand and date movement. We don’t have any official statement about the movement, but the brand is used to rely on the self-winding Sellita SW200, an ETA-clone that will perform its duties without any issue. It has 42 hours of power reserve, a quick date and a hacking second mechanism. It is a reliable and simple movement that sits perfectly in such a tool watch.

The JeanRichard Aeroscope 3-hand uses the same 44mm sandwich case as the chronograph edition, with its fixed 60-minute bezel, a specific feature of the pilot watches. For this autumnal season, it comes in two different tastes: a sanded titanium case with a dark grey dial or a Black-PVD titanium case with a green dial. We won’t blame JeanRichard for using such a material, as the steel Aquascope we’ve been testing was slightly too heavy once on the wrist.

On both editions, we can find large and highly legible indexes and skeletonized hands. All of them are made out of Billight, a mixture of resin and Superluminova that gives a lucid effect to the entire index, and not just to its upper surface.

The JeanRichard Aquascope 3-hand is priced at 2.950Eur (including EU taxes) in titanium with a grey dial and 3.750Eur (including EU taxes) in black-PVD titanium with a green dial.
